You can never have too much storage space and this little bench gives you loads. It’s made from those 2X4s and has a great X leg look. Underneath the seat are crates, which you can also make from your 2X4s, for storing just about anything you need to store. This would be a great outdoor bench for the patio. You can use the crates to store outside toys or even things that you need when you’re grilling out. Best of all, you can build the entire thing, including stain, for around $40 or less.
There are lots of online sources for bun feet, but I wasn’t going to spend $30 or more when I could make my own for free. I gathered up some 3/4-in.-thick wood scraps, glued two layers together and cut out circles with a hole saw. After sanding the rough edges, I screwed each foot to a scrap of wood to hold it securely and rounded both sides with a round-over bit. A 3/4-in. round-over bit will cost you just as much as factory-made bun feet would. But spending on tools is always the right thing to do, even for a cheapskate.

If you tend to love woodworking projects, this workbench is certainly something that you should build. You can get all of the supplies you need to make it for around $20, which is much cheaper than buying an already made workbench. It’s cheap and nothing that you would expect to see in a high end workshop, but it’s also sturdy and definitely gets the job done.

Here’s a traditional Swedish farm accessory for gunk-laden soles. The dimensions are not critical, but be sure the edges of the slats are fairly sharp?they’re what makes the boot scraper work. Cut slats to length, then cut triangular openings on the side of a pair of 2x2s. A radial arm saw works well for this, but a table saw or band saw will also make the cut. Trim the 2x2s to length, predrill, and use galvanized screws to attach the slats from underneath. If you prefer a boot cleaner that has brushes, check out this clever project.
Drill four 5/8-in.-dia. 1/2-in.-deep holes on the large disc—inside the traced circle—then use 5/8-in. dowel centers to transfer the hole locations to the underside of the small disc. Drill four 1/2-in.-deep holes on the underside of the small disc and a 1/2-in.-deep hole in the center of the top for the dowel handle. Glue in the dowels to join the discs, and glue in the handle. We drilled a wood ball for a handle knob, but a screw-on ceramic knob also provides a comfortable, attractive grip.
I recently came across this beautiful wooden swing set, which was made in the shape of a boat. Cool, isn’t it? The very first look was enough for me to start loving it. Although I haven’t yet tried building one myself, I am definitely going to. Later I realized that you can also build a baby cradle with the same idea. After all, what can be more calming than the tender rocking of a boat? This swing set will surely help your child get more gentle sleep.
The beauty of this project lies in the simplicity. All you need are 3 pieces of wood of your choice (though we must admit natural hardwoods will look incredible), sanding block, clamps, wood glue and finishing product. The hardest step of the whole tutorial is measuring – as always, measure 9 times, cut once! You wouldn’t want to finish your project and then realize it doesn’t have enough space to fit your DVD player, would you?

This charging station looks just like those expensive ones you see at department stores, but it will cost you much less. Actually, if you have a 2X4 on hand, it won’t cost you anything. You just need to cut a piece of your board, measure the hole that you need to fit your phone and then stain the board. You can build it to fit your phone no matter what type it is, so there are no worries of the phone not being secure while it’s charging.
